Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Lowe is Associate Professor of Medicine (Biomedical Informatics) at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he is the Senior Associate Dean for Information Resources and Technology and Director of the Stanford Center for Clinical Informatics. He also directs Stanford's CTSA Translational Informatics Program. A graduate of University College Dublin (Ireland), he received his MD in 1980 and underwent residency training in Internal Medicine and Neurology at Tuft's in Boston. He became board certified in Internal Medicine in 1984. From 1984-1988 he was a Fellow in Medicine and Medical Informatics at Harvard Medical School and the Laboratory of Computer Science at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. In 1998 he was elected a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI). His research in the field of biomedical informatics over the past 30 years has focused on the development of novel uses of information technology and computer science to improve human health. His current interests include the Electronic Health Record (EHR), biomedical knowledge representation, Internet applications in healthcare, clinical data warehouses, clinical data and text mining, academic social networking and the use of information technology to support clinical and translational research.
