Curriculum Vitae

Jim Robinson has over 35 years of experience in clinical research informatics, data management and large scale computing. He is the Director of the Information Sciences Division at the Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research and Assistant Research Professor, Departments of Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, New York University Langone Medical Center. He has been the recipient of over $40,000,000 in funds for clinical research informatics, data management and computing. Mr. Robinson has a master’s degree in education, has completed several graduate courses in research design and statistics at the National Institutes of Health, several courses in the Management of Technology Program at American University, and numerous computer programming and technology courses. In May of 2009, Mr. Robinson joined the NYU Langone Medical Center to establish the Clinical and Research Informatics Data Management Unit of the Center for Health Informatics and Bioinformatics (CHIBI).

Mr. Robinson has been the director of data management and/or statistics for numerous multi-site clinical trial networks.  He has been the Director of Data Management and Statistics for the New York University and Columbia Nodes (centers) of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Clinical Trials Network (CTN).  He has also been the Director of the Data Coordinating Center for the Harvard and Rocky Mountain nodes of the NIDA CTN as well as for specific NIDA CTN studies conducted and implemented in the Universities of Miami and North Carolina nodes.   Mr. Robinson has been Director of Data Management for several adult psychiatric clinical trial networks.  These include:

  • Treatment Units for Research on Neurocognition in Schizophrenia funded by NIMH and being conducted at Harvard University, Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research, University of North Carolina, University of California at Los Angeles and Washington University in St. Louis.
  • Treatment of Negative Symptoms and Cognitive Impairments in Schizophrenia funded by the National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH) and being conducted at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research and University of California at Los Angeles.
  • Israel Multi-Center D-Serine funded by the Stanley Foundation and being conducted at 12 clinical sites in Israel.

Mr. Robinson has also been Director of data Management for several child psychiatric clinical trial networks.  These include:

  • Methylphenidate Efficacy and Safety in ADHD Preschoolers” funded by NIMH and being conducted at Columbia University, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, New York University, University of California at Irvine and University of California at Los Angeles
  • Research Units of Pediatric Psychopharmacology (RUPP) for Anxiety Disorders” funded by NIMH and being conducted at Columbia University, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, New York University and University of California at Los Angeles.  The results of the
  • RUPP for Autism and Other Pervasive Disorders” funded by NIMH and being conducted at Indiana University, Johns Hopkins University, Ohio State University, University of California at Los Angeles and Yale University.  The results of the primary study for this network were published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
  • Columbia Child Intervention Research Center” funded by NIMH and where several intervention studies at both single and multiple sites are being conducted.

Mr. Robinson has numerous publications including reporting on findings in such areas as PTSD, Substance Use Disorders, Smoking Cessation, HIV/AIDS, HCV, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity and Anxiety Disorders. He is a member of the Society for Clinical Data Management, Society of Clinical Research Associates, Data Management Association International, and Society for Clinical Trials.
