Dr. Chelico is a board certified internal medicine physician
with formal training in biomedical informatics. His expertise is in clinical
informatics and the use of electronic health record systems for the improvement
of clinical quality and research.He is the Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO)
of North Shore University Hospital in the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System
in New York.
Dr. Chelico continues his clinical practice as a hospitalist
in Internal Medicine where he is a ward attending to both internal medicine
house staff and medical students. He is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine
at NYU School of Medicine where he is the course director for an introductory
course in biomedical informatics. Additionally he is the principle investigator
in a NIH/NLM funded applied informatics grant that aims to create a web service
based computerized decision support engine that can deliver patient specific
preventive care recommendations at the point of care.
Dr. Chelico is a graduate of New York University where he
studied Computer Science at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. He
attended medical school at the State University of New York Downstate Medical
Center and was residency trained in Internal Medicine at North Shore University
Hospital. Subsequently he completed a Post Doctoral Fellowship and Masters
Degree in Biomedical Informatics at the Columbia University Medical Center.
During his fellowship he became intricately involved with
the re-architecture of the clinical data warehouse for the New York
Presbyterian Healthcare System. Following his fellowship he joined NYC Health
& Hospitals Corporation as the Asst. CMIO at Bellevue Hospital Center. He
then was the Director of Clinical Informatics at NYU Langone Medical Center
where he is was a physician lead overseeing the Enterprise Data Warehouse,
Business Intelligence, and Epic Electronic Health Record System implementation
across the enterprise.
