Steven Shen M.D., Ph.D.
- Associate Professor, Department of Biochemisty
Dr. Shen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and the Center for Health Informatics and Bioinformatics at New York University Langone Medical Center. The primary focus of his work is to develop next generation sequencing-related technology and computational methods for probing the epigenetic alteration in the genome of Ant species. The ultimate goal of this research is to analyze epigenetic elements in a single-base resolution and build a ‘google earth’ like map to allow scientists to navigate the fundamentals and dynamics of epigenetic alteration and corresponding biological behavior in such species.
In addition to the NGS technology development and epigenetic research, Dr. Shen also provides bioinformatics expertise and consultation services to basic and clinical research investigators at the NYU Langone Medical Center for their high throughput data modeling and analysis.
Before coming to NYUMC, Dr. Shen was a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine. He also spent seven years at Massachusetts Institute of Technology developing high throughput technology and computational methods and two years at Helicos Biosciences developing single molecule sequencing technology. He authored and co-authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications in the biological and medical field.
