Database Management Services
The Clinical Research Informatics and Data Management Unit personnel of the Center for Health Informatics and Bioinformatics have extensive experience n the design and development of clinical research databases including registries. A goal of this unit is to develop research registries and databases that provide useful information on an ongoing basis to research programs and principal investigators. Unit personnel can provide consultation to investigators in the development of a database or can fully develop databases for investigators. Unit personnel will work with investigators and their research teams to develop the specifications for each unique database. Data items required to be stored will be identified, a database schema to logically organize the data will be developed and data duplication and redundancy avoided by normalizing the database. A data dictionary will be developed providing detailed documentation on each data element or field stored in the database. The physical database will be created and provided to the research investigator for use. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other privacy issues will be taken into consideration in developing all databases. Unit personnel have substantial experience in developing and working with very large databases and are expert at integrating data from multiple sources into a single database.
