Requesting an HPC User Account
An HPC user Account at NYULMC provides access to local HPC resources, such as the Aesclipius Linux cluster and scalable data storage systems. HPC user accounts are managed by admins of the High Performance Computing Facility (HPCF) at the Center for Health Informatics and Bioinformatics. To apply for an account, please send an email to hpc_admins@nyumc.org with the subject line "HPC account Request" including the following information in the body of the email:
- Full Name
- Kerberos id
- Email address (to be added in our mailing list)
- Department/Center/Section
- PI Name
- Project Title
- A short paragraph describing your research
- A short paragraph describing your HPC needs (data storage, compute power, data transfers, remote access, etc.)
- (optional) The user's ssh public key
HPCF admins will respond with a request for a BPIC consultation. The initial consultation is free and can be done over the phone. The purpose of the consultation is to inform perspective users of the available resources and services, best practices on accessing and using the resources, user responsibilities and costs associated with HPC accounts as well as answer any questions the perspective users may have. More information about BPIC HPC consultations can be found in the following link: http://www.nyuinformatics.org/Services/hpcf/hpcconsult
NOTES:
- Requests for multiple accounts can be send in a single email.
- Accounts are usually created within a business day of the initial HPC BPIC consultation. You will receive an email from the HPCF admins when the accounts are created. You will also receive a written consultation report.
- In order to login and access HPC resources, once an account is created, a secure shell (ssh) client must be installed on the user's computer. Unix/Linux/Mac OS X usually come with a pre-installed ssh client. For windows workstations, putty is a popular client. A list of ssh clients is available here. Users have to send their public ssh key to the HPCF admins. If you already have a public key, or you know how to create one, please include it with the email message requesting the account creation. If not, the HPC experts will help you create an ssh keypair during the initial consultation.
- Publications and Grant Proposals that have resulted from using HPCF resources should cite and acknowledge the use of HPC resources by including the following acknowledgement statement:
"This work has utilized computing resources at the High Performance Computing Facility of the Center for Health Informatics and Bioinformatics at New York University Langone Medical Center"
